By Chirs Anderson
Blockbusters must now compete with an infinite number of niche offerings, which can be distributed just as easily. Justin Timberlake still makes albums, but today he has thousands of bands on MySpace as rivals. The hierarchy of attention has inverted – credibility now rises from below. MTV and Tower Records no longer decide who will win. You do.

Remember outsourcing? Sending jobs to India and China is so 2003. The new pool of cheap labor: everyday people using their spare cycles to create content, solve problems, even do corporate R & D.

You don't change the world by hiding in the woods, wearing a hair shirt, or buying indulgences in the form of save the earth bumper stickers. You do it by articulating a vision for the future and pursuing it with all the ingenuity humanity can muster.

Games are evolving to entertain, educate, and engage us individually. These personalized games will reflect who we are and what we enjoy, much as our choice of books and music does now. They will allow us to express ourselves, meet others, and create things that we can only dimly imagine.

In Praise of Bubbles点击:119
 分类:bubble; internet; Wired 时间:2006-1-31 17:08:18 undersound收录 复制到我的网摘
The result has been a real, delayed boom. Put cheap data transmission and storage together with an exploding population of consumers willing to use the Net and you get eBay, Google, and Yahoo! Now come widespread laments that another bursting bubble is anon: real estate, genomics, China stocks, wireless Internet, you name it. Maybe so. But sometimes, a little methodless enthusiasm is precisely what an economy needs.

By Chris Anderson, Editor in Cheif of Wired
So there you have the recipe for a healthy boom, not a fragile bubble: a more receptive marketplace, lower costs, and lighter pressure from investors.

Pay-per-click advertising is big, big, big business. So are bogus hits on Internet ads. It's search giants against scam artists in an arms race that could crash the entire online economy.

The answer, they decided, was to build a network of blogs. They ran some quick calculations. A franchise scenario with only a few blogs wouldn't give them economies of scale, they figured. But at 100, 200, or 500 blogs, the numbers looked more appealing. A network could hire just a handful of people to manage tech support and ad sales for dozens and dozens of bloggers.

We say it every December, but this time we mean it - this is the best year for gizmos ever. In addition to impossibly tiny phones, incredibly sharp digicams, and elegantly enormous TVs, this season brings us toy robots that don't suck, an all-powerful new game console, sleek portable video players, and revolutionary home appliances. You've been good all year, haven't you?

On Friday, the world's second-biggest record label pledged to temporarily stop making CDs that leave computers vulnerable to security breaches. This is a step in the right direction, but it does not go nearly far enough toward correcting a serious ethical lapse. In fact, it is proof positive that Sony is unworthy of our trust or our business.
